Seeking refuge in the Joshua Trees
That reach out to heaven where spirits are free
You felt too much you burned too bright
Three chords and the truth your guiding light
Chorus:
Is your ghost here waiting or were you set free?
From the demons that stole you, Whiskey and Morphine
Sing me a sad song from Room Number Eight
In the land of the living, It's never too late

Your songs live on. Your spirit is here
The stars in the desert sky wish you were near
When memories live on you never really die
Sing me a sad song. Bring tears to my eyes.

You're safe at home here. The songs will never die.

Ghost of Jimi
Words and Music by Brent L Godfrey
Verse 1:
At a street-side table of a Chinese restaurant we had just started to eat.
When a figure that looked vaguely familiar stumbled up from the street.
He had an Afro straight from the sixties the back of his pants were ripped and torn
He had far away eyes and splotchy black skin. The waiter looked at him with scorn.
He held out his hand begging for change and everyone just looked away.
Once idolized now unrecognized two different worlds another day.
Chorus 1:
Be careful how you treat the lost soul that you meet could be an angel in disguise
May look like a beggar out on the street. No one knows where we go when we die.
We may call heaven home or wander all alone for all eternity
We may reincarnate or just evaporate. It's the same for you and me.
Verse 2
Can I help you sir the waiter asked the ghost of Jimi Hendrix
He pointed at the plate in front of a man who was trying to eat with chopsticks.
That costs 10 dollars said the waiter. Jimi just moaned and turned away.
How long had he wandered how long since he ate. When did he loose his way?
And the city swallowed him up as he wandered off into his purple haze.
Once idolized now unrecognized two different worlds another day.
Instrumental Chorus
Chorus 2:
Be careful how you treat the lost souls that you meet they could be an angel in disguise
They may look like beggars out on the street. No one knows where we go when we die.
Alms for the poor or do you just ignore the lost souls out on the street
Alms for the poor can you just ignore desperate faces that you meet

Another Roadside Attraction
Words and Music by Brent L Godfrey © 2020
Verse 1
The Route faded into obscurity when the interstate arrived
Ghosts haunt the abandoned motels with their vacancy signs
Empty rooms have become a canvas. Bright graffiti and broken glass
On this crumbling stretch of highway you can feel the landscape pass
Chorus 1
Another roadside attraction is coming up I am told
There are Cadillacs planted like corn right along the road
If you stand on the corner in Winslow Arizona and take a look around
Curio shops selling American dreams made in China abound
Vintage cars playing rock n roll cruise up and down the strip
Heading East to West across the land you can still get some kicks.
Verse 2
What's happened to small town America bypassed by the Interstate
Rushing so fast to go nowhere. Afraid of being late.
There're bright spots among the wreckage Soda fountains and neon signs
Nostalgia brings back fond memories. Changing landscapes changing times
Chorus 2
Another roadside attraction is coming up right ahead
The Elvis room of the rail haven motel has a Cadillac for a bed
If you're hungry take the 72 oz cut challenge at Big Texas Steak Ranch
Or head to Amarillo's 6th street district if you like to dance
The painted desert and the petrified forest's scenery astounds
There's always another roadside attraction coming up at the next town
Instrumental Verse
Chorus 1
repeat ending West to East

A Song About Love
Words and Music by Brent Godfrey
I could spend all my money on therapy or Drink all day long
But I think I'd rather write a simple country song
One that lifts me from my sorrows One that takes away my pain
One that drives the demons from my mind
And keeps me from going insane
A song about love
A song about joy
A song about a girl and a boy
A song about me
A song about you
And all the crazy things that we do
(And the crazy things we say and do) - 2nd time
A song about life
A song about faith
A song about all the time that we waste
Hiding from truth
Living with hate
Instead of changing things before it's too late
